MINUTES of SOCIAL CLUB MEETINGS

SOCIAL CLUB GENERAL MEETING MINUTES
February 8, 2012

Board Members present:  Joanne Small, Judy Carlson, Connie Antonellis, Lynn Parkis, John Kirk, Wendy Kirk, Diane Beasant, and Pauline McKinnon.
Joanne led us in the Pledge of Allegiance, and welcomed everyone.   The Secretary’s minutes were read and accepted with the correction of the name “Maynard”.  The Treasurer’s Report was read & accepted.  Connie asked members with questions about minutes or Treasurer’s Reports to ask those questions at the next General Meeting; please do not call Board Members at home.
OLD BUSINESS:
Joanne said that Health Screenings would be available March 6 only if enough people signed up.
Connie said a nice thank-you letter had been received from the Women Vets at West Palm VA Hospital for 4 boxes of toiletries, cards and other small items sent to them after our Women’s Luncheon.  Joanne said the bus driver to the hospital will take any items donated, as he drivess nearly every day.
John congratulated Phyllis Koppenhaver for winning the 50/50 from January’s breakfast.
NEW BUSINESS
Barb Boardman spoke from the floor reminding everyone that Social Club Elections would be held February 20th.   Those to be considered for Director include Ron Clarke, Jane Ovenden, Linda Miller, Ida Faubert, and Yvonne Bailey.  Candidates for President and Vice President have not been found. She said that if members do not step up to fill positions like these, the Social Club is weakened and may cease to exist.  She called for nominations from the floor.  Diane Gates, Jane Smithmyer, and Connie Mitchell were nominated for Director.
John announced that Randy’s Trophies & Tees in Sebastian now has the Whispering Palms logo and can stencil crew neck shirts for $9, Polo shirts for $15-16.  We will soon have samples to look at, and then members can go to Randy’s (directly across from Wendy’s) to order their color and size.  Hats are available too.
Diane had 18 or 19 Valentines Dance tickets left.  She said the Bon Voyage Dance in March still has no hostess.  If you can help, contact Diane Beasant.
Joanne said there is no time available to put on a breakfast in February.
Pauline encouraged people to get tickets soon for the Italian Dinner as about 350 people are expected.  The cooks spend two days preparing sauce, and need cleanup volunteers.  Takeouts will be available about 4:00, dinner is served at 5:00.  Bring your plate settings after 10:00 a.m. to save your places.
Judy reminded us that the HOA needs 121 people in order to vote for Board Members, so encouraged everyone to attend and bring their neighbors.
Gail explained the Shuffleboard Turkeyshoot to be held February 25, promising fun for everyone … and prizes.
Lynn encouraged everyone to come watch the Whispering Palms Players present “A Plot of Murder”  on February 25.  She said Game Night has been sparsely attended, and will not be continued if attendance is not larger the rest of February.
Connie said Mardi Gras will be held February 26.  She will help Aldor set up decorations.  They need baked goods for after the parade.  Sign up to be in the parade and try for a prize.  There will be a new category for dogs this year.
Joanne has contacted Weight Watchers’ headquarters and they need 15 people to sign up to start a class here at the Park.  Sign up sheet is on the bulletin board.
Golda Nelson announced from the floor that she had arranged a Day Trip on Thursday, March 8.  Pickup at Main Hall, 8:30 a.m., with return about 6 p.m.  The trip includes bus fare, wine tasting at Lake Ridge Winery, a visit to Mission Bakery, and lunch buffet at Hacienda Restaurant.  Price is $60 per person cash or check at Gad About Travel.
Joanne said Open Bargain Day one March 3 will include a parkwide yardsale, lunch sale chaired by Diane Yates, bake sale chaired by Jane Smithmyer, craft show organized by Norma Sheffelbine, and 50/50 run by Chris Zuker.
Joanne invited all women to the Secret Pal Tea Feb. where secrets will be revealed.
Jane Smithmyer asked that all activity chairs and ticket sellers stand to be recognized.  She encouraged others to take part in providing some of the great activities the Social Club provides.  It cannot continue to provide all of these activities if more people do not help out.
Al Robinson, member of the HOA Board, asked people to attend the HOA meeting and Election on Valentines Day.  Proxy sheets are available in the Office for those who cannot attend, so that their votes can be counted.
The meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted
Lynn Parkis, Secretary
