June, 2012

Dear Friends at Whispering Palms,

This is an announcement I hate to make, but health issues have made necessary.  I have resigned my position as President of the Social Club Board, and Clyde and I have moved into a ground-level condo in Vista Royale, near McKee Garden in Vero Beach.  It's lovely here, very convenient for Clyde, and near our son and my sister.  As much as we like our new surroundings, nothing will ever seem quite as much like home in Florida as Whispering Palms.

The Board has planned some special surprises for you this Season, and I hope you will take part and enjoy them as much as we enjoyed planning them for you.

The Board will need even more volunteers to carry out these plans.  Please step forward and discover how much fun it is to participate behind the scenes with other residents and campers.

Clyde and I will miss you all, but carry great memories with us.
Thank you for letting me serve on the Board these past years.
It has been a period of enlightenment and joy for me.  Party on, WPSC!

Sincerely,
Lynn Parkis

UNSUNG PARK HEROES:  If you have been in this Park for any length of time, you know Nancy James who teaches line dancing, is on the Social Club Board, instructs osteoporosis exercises, and is involved "behind the scenes" in a whole lot of Park activities.  Well, behind this great woman is a really great man, her husband, Dick.  He helps her with everything and does it with a smile.  Some things you probably don't know about--they clean out the refrigerators in the Main Hall at the end of the season, they buy supplies for our activities at the Main Hall, they straighten the storage room when needed, they make coffee and help clean up after lots of events and meetings.  They help many of Park residents with personal issues and problems.  We recognize, salute, and say a sincere "Thank You" to these unsung Park heroes."

PHYLLIS BAKER  –  Our beloved Phyllis passed quietly on the morning of October 29.  Her family was gathered with her.  You may send condolences to Phil Baker, P.O. Box 434, Colton NY 13625.  Phyllis’ long contribution to the Social Club and the Park were immeasurable.  Baker Hall was named for Phyllis to show her how much she mattered to the WP community.  Her passing will leave a large hole in both the community and in our hearts.  The family has suggested that memorial contributions go to the Potsdam Animal Shelter, Meals on Wheels, or Random Acts of Kindness.  However, knowing Phyllis’ commitment to Samaritan Center and HALO in Sebastian, the Social Club is also collecting contributions to be given in her name to those charities.  Barbara Boardman will collect these contributions.  A Memorial service is being planned for the Whispering Palms community at a later date, probably in early 2011, so that more of Phyllis’ friends can attend.  Specifics for the Memorial will be published in our website: WPSCwhispers.blogspot.com
